Hernandez Named To 2005-06 WAC All-Academic ListApril 24, 2006
The Western Athletic Conference released its 2005-06 Winter All-Academic teams for the sports of men and women's basketball, women's swimming and diving and gymnastics today and Fresno State line spreads had six student-athletes honored, including sophomore forward Hector Hernandez (Chihuahua, Mexico)

Honored by the WAC for the first time, Hernandez started all 28 games and averaged a season-best 8.9 total points and 5.5 rebounds per game this past season. With a cumulative grade point average of 3.25, he posted his first career 20-point game and finished among the conference leaders in rebounds and blocked shots. Still further on the academic side, Hernandez is also a Fresno State and WAC Scholar-Athlete.

Under first-year head coach Steve Cleveland, Hernandez and his teammates set/tied 19 records at the Save Mart Center en route to posting the best home record in Save Mart Center history (12-2) while being nationally ranked in steals and 3-point field goals during the season. Cleveland, who wrapped up his ninth season as a Division I head coach, has produced 25 academic all-conference honorees.

A total of 126 WAC student-athletes were honored today. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 odds percent of the team's contests.
