Chris Alexander scored 16 points Friday night to lead Southern to a 66-59 victory over Jackson State total points and earn a trip to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game.

Deforrest Riley-Smith added 13 points for Southern (18-12). Peter Cipriano had nine rebounds as Southern took control of the game from the beginning and never gave up its lead over Jackson State (15-17).

Southern outscored Jackson State 33-27 in the first half, and 33-32 in the second.

Trey Johnson led Jackson State with 16 points. Catraiva Givens added 12 points.

Ernest Hassell, Julius Young and Johnson each had seven rebounds.

Southern will face Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday in the championship game.

Alabama A&M 72, Jackson St. 62March 3, 2006
Obie Trotter had 20 points and Michael Ford added 17 to lead Alabama A&M to a 72-62 gambling spread win over Jackson State on Thursday night.

Joe Martin added 11 points for A&M (12-12, 10-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which won its fourth straight game.

Jackson State (14-15, 10-7) was led by Dakari Wallace's 15 points. Trey Johnson added 14 points and Charlie White had 11 for the Tigers, whose two-game winning streak was snapped.

Alabama A&M led 41-32 at halftime and held Jackson State to 36 percent shooting.

Southern 70, Jackson St. 58February 8, 2006
Peter Cipriano's 20 points led four Southern University players in double figures as the Jaguars held on to first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 70-58 spread victory over Jackson State on Monday.

Southern (10-11, 9-2 SWAC) entered the night tied with Grambling for first place after losing to the Tigers Saturday night.

Southern led Jackson State 18-7 with 13:51 left in the first half. They stretched it to 37-24 at the half.

Chris Alexander's basket with 14:28 left in the game gave Southern its biggest lead at 50-35.

Jackson State (11-12, 7-4 SWAC) used an 11-2 run to get within 52-46 with 9:30 remaining on a basket from Trey Johnson.

But Southern responded with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 58-46 with 7:19 to play.

Alexander added 17 points, Jerrid Campbell had 13 and Steffon Wiley contributed 10 for Southern.

Trey Johnson led Jackson State with a game high 26 points and Julius Young added 11. Jackson State shot only 39 odds percent for the game.

Southern outrebounded Jackson State 42-24.

Jackson St. 62, Ark.-Pine Bluff 57January 31, 2006
Jeremy Caldwell had 14 points to lead Jackson State to a 62-57 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night.

Ernest Hassell had 12 points and Trey Johns added 11 for the Tigers (10-11, 6-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Jarvis Gunter had 20 points to lead Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-11, 3-6 SWAC).

Jackson State shot 43.3 odds percent, held Pine Bluff to 36.5 percent shooting and held a 43-31 rebounding advantage.
