The virtue of angels is that they cannot deteriorate; their flaw is that they cannot improve. Man's flaw is that he can deteriorate; and his virtue is that he can improve.

It was a good day. I woke up and worked on the computer for a while and Mikey was awake about eight oclock. We finally got going around nine thirty and went by IHOP for breakfast. Then we headed to Toy R Us and made a deal for the bike. We decided to put it together and that was fairly easy. He was anxious to ride it but the damned battery had to be charged for twenty-four hours. A real pain in the ass. We were to meet at Annie’s house to go the game. He sort of rode it in the street and showed it to his neighbors. Katie showed up and gave him some clothes to change and we headed for the game. It was some place in west Eugene and he was right in there. I was stuck with Annie and Katie but made the most of it. I yelled and carried on so that Mikey would hear me. He came and got a drink, waved often and enjoyed the attention. He got sort of roughed up and lost some of his enthusiasm and started playing with a smaller kid on the sidelines. His team won so that was good. It was hard to keep track of things. After it was over he wanted to ice skate again so we went to the fairgrounds and he skated around for about an hour; then the place closed. We stumbled around and eventually headed for a McDonalds. He played with some kids until I had to get ready to go home. Man, I sure hated to leave him. I talked to Nolan but that did not help much. I hope he got to use his bike and it is as good as he wanted it to be. |
