I am up early to make my way to Salem and pay Michael a visit. It is a cloudy day but will probably turn sunny later. I may have to do some preparation for Saturday Market if I decide to take on the TriCity Herald as a sideline at the Market.
I took off at seven thirty and gassed up at Space Age and headed for the city. All went very smoothly. I stopped at McDonalds in The Dalles for coffee, pie and relief- then on to Salem. Got more gas and went to duck pond and read a little while. I got admitted and there was another woman who was talking and trying to get a conversation going without much success. She probably went away and told her friend that those guys are weird. Mike was waiting for me and he looked pretty good - needed a shave and looked shrunk. He had not got the books but had found a phone he liked. The money had shown up and I guess he is now set for the rest of his term. He will be let out of the cell without hand cuffs and walk around a little bit. He said his kid and his mother were back in Portland and all right. I pryed around and found out that he has two twin sisters. One is married and both have two kids. The unmarried one lives with his mother and one of her sons is still there and the other is in a camper trailer on the property. It sounds sort of like a hardscrabble existence. I hope I can get some things a little better for him if he wants it. He did not seem to be very concerned about my meeting his family etc. so I guess just do whatever.
I had a letter from him and Joel when I checked the mail. There is a package there also so I expect it is the "click" deal with Amazon. I talked to Larue about doing something for the paper at Saturday Market but I just started on it too late this week. Pitzer was pissed because he could not find his paper so I threw him another one tonight. He parks those cars so it is hard to see his lawn or sidewalk. I kept my peace.
The Most Positive Memorable Moment was catching a glimpse of Mike's face when I show up. I hope he is as pleased to see me when he gets out as I am to actual not have to talk through glass to him |
