August 9, 2009 - It's spring, and that means weddings
It's spring, and that means weddings, confirmations, graduations, and for Catholic families, First Communion. We happen to be one of those Catholic families with a second grader that will be celebrating her First Holy Communion this spring.
Three years ago, my older daughter celebrated her First Communion. It was a lovely celebration. While she was thrilled to wear a pretty white dress, she didn't want it to be too fussy and frilly. And she's still mad at me for insisting she wear white tights. She received several gifts that she still cherishes today. Some of her favorites are a prayer book, a pearl bracelet, a necklace with a prayer box charm, and a jewelry box to keep the jewelry in.
Besides the gifts she received, our church had the children create quilt blocks that had symbols of the church. The kids were allowed to choose the fabric to complete the quilt, and then the parents had the quilt sewn together.
